In today’s episode I share a great quote from Pope Benedict that reminds us that the encounter with Christ always leads to sharing that joy with others.

Speaker:

That's O N E.

Speaker:

On Catholic teacher.com and let me know who you'd like me to, uh, to find

Speaker:

out about and get them on the show.

Speaker:

So let's do that now, today.

Speaker:

I'm keeping with my current interest in Pope Benedict 16, I think a.

Speaker:

This is like the old saying the gift that keeps on giving his theology.

Speaker:

His writing is going to be blessing us for centuries and centuries to come.

Speaker:

Like so many of the great men and women in church history, but

Speaker:

today's a really simple quote that goes to very much to the heart of

Speaker:

what you're doing every single day.

Speaker:

As a Catholic educator, listen to this.

Speaker:

He says anyone who has discovered Christ.

Speaker:

Must lead others to him.

Speaker:

A great joy.

Speaker:

Cannot be kept to oneself.

Speaker:

It has to be passed on.

Speaker:

Uh, great joy cannot be kept to oneself.

Speaker:

It has to be passed on so many thoughts.

Speaker:

Go through my mind at this point.

Speaker:

From the new Testament alone.

Speaker:

Think of when the, you know, the first disciples.

Speaker:

Encounter Jesus.

Speaker:

And they come and see the one.

Speaker:

And Andrew says, come and see the one that the prophets wrote about,

Speaker:

you know, they encounter Christ.

Speaker:

And then they go to Peter and say, we've, we've found the Messiah.

Speaker:

We've found him.

Speaker:

Have you seen that recent awesome show?

Speaker:

The chosen.

Speaker:

You remember that moment where, you know, Peter's like really,

Speaker:

you you've found the Messiah.

Speaker:

Of course you have.

Speaker:

And you found a two headed fish as well.

Speaker:

But there's this joy in Andrew that Christ has been discovered.

Speaker:

I think, uh, you know, I'd love to try and pray the rosary every day and

Speaker:

the joyful mysteries are so beautiful.

Speaker:

Think of the visitation.

Speaker:

What's Mary's first impulse.

Speaker:

I've often joked on stage that if I was married, And, uh, you know, you

Speaker:

find out that the, uh, that God himself is coming into the world through you.

Speaker:

You'd be straight on Instagram, right?

Speaker:

You'd be hashtag theater, cos hashtag mother of God.

Speaker:

And, uh, and, and showing everybody be on Tik TOK straight away.

Speaker:

What does Mary do?

Speaker:

What's a first impulse ma Mary's first impulse is to go

Speaker:

to her kins woman, Elizabeth.

Speaker:

And the news goes with her, the joy.

Speaker:

And of course, Elizabeth in the, in the visitation runs out.

Speaker:

You.

Speaker:

You know, there's joy is infectious.

Speaker:

And it has to be passed on.

Speaker:

I think of, uh, you know, some of you would know Karen and I were,

Speaker:

were desperate to start a family when we were married and we weren't able

Speaker:

to have children for a long time.

Speaker:

Over six years.

Speaker:

Of a journey with infertility.

Speaker:

And then, uh, I think it was.

Speaker:

We joked that we had a, we had a great relationship with the sisters of life.

Speaker:

If any of you, sisters of life listening, welcome a board.

Speaker:

And we asked them to pray for us.

Speaker:

And all of a sudden we started getting pregnant.

Speaker:

We had three kids in three and a half years.

Speaker:

And I was wondering if we could.

Speaker:

Ring ring the sisters of life and say, okay, you can stop praying now.

Speaker:

But, um, the kids kept coming.

Speaker:

But I wanted to share with you the exact moment.

Speaker:

When we found out we were pregnant with our first child, who's now

Speaker:

a teenager who incidentally.

Speaker:

Yesterday asked me to teach her to drive.

Speaker:

Oh, my gosh, that's a big step.

Speaker:

And, uh, you know, Karen coming home from the doctor and knowing we were pregnant

Speaker:

and that joy, that infectious joy that you immediately begin to share with everybody.

Speaker:

So I love this quote from Pope Benedict, because if you've encountered Christ,

Speaker:

he says, you must lead others to him.

Speaker:

A great joy cannot be kept to oneself.

Speaker:

It has to be passed on if you do one thing in Catholic education.

Speaker:

And if that just one thing is to help one young person be or

Speaker:

encounter Christ, come to know Jesus.

Speaker:

Come to.

Speaker:

Build their life upon him.

Speaker:

Then that is a remarkable achievement and something that you should

Speaker:

be incredibly proud of and find great solace and consolation in.

Speaker:

So my friend, if you have encountered Christ in your own life, I ain't on

Speaker:

the spiritual, life's a long journey.

Speaker:

Isn't that?

Speaker:

We have highs.

Speaker:

We have lows.

Speaker:

We have times when cross feels incredibly close.

Speaker:

And other times it's like the transfiguration when he, when, when

Speaker:

the cloud covers him on the mountain and we go, ah, Jesus, where did you go?

Speaker:

Kinda need some help right now.

Speaker:

But, uh, if you've encountered him, the imperative is to lead others to him.

Speaker:

So how do you do it?

Speaker:

It's every class it's just.

Speaker:

You know, I, when I was teaching, I would often just really take prayer

Speaker:

seriously at the start of the list.

Speaker:

And especially things like silence, giving students a little moment of silence.

Speaker:

And modeling for them that you take Christ seriously modeling

Speaker:

for them that you invite Christ into the start of every lesson.

Speaker:

And those little things can make a huge difference.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

That's it from me.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

That is all I wanted to say today.
